Privacy Policy
Effective July 12, 2026
We, the Compton (“we,” “us”) is an independent civic-information service for Compton, California. It is not affiliated with or operated by the City of Compton or any government agency. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices, across our website and mobile apps (together, the “Service”).
Information we collect
You give us: If you create an account, your email address, an optional display name, and a password (stored only as a secure hash). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email and a provider identifier; we never receive your Apple or Google password. We also store content you create — meetings, moments, and documents you bookmark; your watchlist; issues you follow; and notification preferences — and anything you send us by email or feedback.
Collected automatically: Usage data — pages and screens viewed, sessions, and interactions — through our analytics provider (Amplitude), to understand what is useful and improve the Service. This may include a device or session identifier assigned by the analytics tool. We also keep standard server logs (such as IP address and device or browser type) needed to deliver and secure the Service.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, health data, or biometric data. If you enable Face ID or fingerprint unlock, that check happens on your device — we never receive your biometric information. We do not process payment-card details in the app; subscriptions, where offered, are handled by Stripe on the web, subject to Stripe’s privacy policy.
How we use information
To provide and maintain your account and saved content; to send a weekly digest or notifications you opt into; to understand and improve the Service; to secure the Service and prevent abuse; and to comply with law.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We share limited data only with service providers who operate the Service on our behalf — Amplitude (analytics), Stripe (payments, web only), and our hosting and database providers — and with Apple or Google when you choose to sign in with them. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
Public records
Meeting agendas, transcripts, votes, budgets, and similar civic content in the Service come from public government records and are not personal information about you.
Data retention and deletion
We keep account data while your account is active. You can delete your account and associated data from within the app (Account → Delete account) or by emailing us at the address below; we will delete your personal data except where we must retain it by law.
Your choices and rights
You can access or update your account information in the app, opt out of the weekly digest from any digest email or your settings, and delete your account. Depending on where you live (for example, California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, delete, or correct your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. To make a request, contact us.
Children
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and hashed passwords. No method is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will post the new effective date here and, for material changes, provide notice in the app or by email.
